In GB IT
Department GB was notified on June 2022. The department is at establishment
stage. Its Secretariat has been established and it is going to hire technical
staff under development project recently approved. IT Department GB is going to
start Digital Training Program in Gilgit and also planning to implement a Rs. 100 million loan scheme for IT Start-up companies in near future.
Special
Communication Organization SCO working under Ministry of IT & Telecom,
Government of Pakistan. SCO was established in 1976 to develop, operate and
maintain all telecom services in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The services which are provided by SCO
include landline telephony (PSTN), wireless local loop (WLL), cellular mobile
service (GSM), broadband internet (DSL), digital cross connect (DXX), long
distance international (LDI), domestic private leased circuits (DPLC) and
co-location facilities to telecom industry players operating in Azad Jammu
& Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. SCO is also operating Software Technology
Park (STP) in Gilgit where a total no of 8 start-up IT Companies are working.
SCO is implementing several PSDP project under Ministry of MOIT.
So far 300
youth in two batches (3 months each) have been trained at Incubation Centre in
KIU Gilgit under National Freelancing Training Program (NFTP) which is being funded by Ministry
of MOIT. 150 no of youth will be trained under this program. Moreover local IT
companies are also offering digital training programs on payment basis. A total
no of 16 IT Companies are working in Gilgit currently providing around 400 jobs
to youth.
